Since 1974, the Chorus has been spectacularly transformed, each new program ever more conclusively determining its current aspect. Its art directorship has been entrusted to V. Zakharchenko who nourished the ideal of producing and reviving on the stage, to be embodied by the Kuban Chorus, the very tradition of the folklore musical performance without squeezing the arranged folk song into the framework of a "la russe" concert item.
The artists spend much time on folklore expeditions to communicate with the masters of the folk song, who expressing the world outlook of the entire people, attract them not so much by their repertoire as by their personality. Most of the folk songs have been recorded and arranged for chorus performance by the composer V. Zakharchenko, art director, People's Artist of the Russian, author of famous folklore collections and vestigations.
"Sovietskaya Rossiya", wrote: "The Kuban land boasts rich harvests, it also boasts . treasures of beautiful folk songs, dances and rites abundantly scattered over the Cossack villages and settlements. And only a man with a warm heart filled with genuine love for his land could collect, and preserve these treasures to return them to people in their pristine purity".
This man was Victor Zakharchenko, People's Artist of the Russian, who included in the concert programs of the recent years many compositions of genuine Cossack folklore. The essence of V. Zakharchenko's song arrangements is simple to return to the folk song its life truth and content embodying its natural environment labour, feats of arms, young people's gatherings and weddings. It is, however, a seeming simplicity.
